Poetry Drive-by: Canyon

i sat
on the edge
of a great gaping canyon
with my feet
dangling
far out
into the slippery space below

not concerned
i know
when i stand
stretch
extend my legs
leave this canyon
far behind
i know

not worried
this canyon
nothing
compared to my destiny
nothing

impatient even
ready to catch up with my life
just wanted
to think things through
thoroughly
as always

thought it through
went around the world twice
in my mind

saw it all
with singing sad eyes
conclusion
no matter
how great a stride

there are places
no one
can
go alone

i sat
thought
sighed
and
shrugged
stood
stepped out
over my dead dreams
and
walked on
toward
my
sun
