Unk tagged me again with 8 random facts or habits about myself via Outlaws just aren’t outlaws anymore… I’ve been tagged! and since he offered it up as a challenge, you know I’m up for it ’cause I ain’t no wuss . . .
8 Random facts or habits about Joshua James
1) When I was a teen, I was a pretty damn good cartoonist, good enough to get published. But like all teens I got into other things and haven’t drawn in many, many years and if you don’t use it, you lose it.
2) I like tomatos. I mean, I really like tomatos. I slice up a pile and eat ‘em every day. Summer is sliced tomato heaven.
3) The London production of my play THE MEN’S ROOM was a random slush pile chance happening. I’d sent the play to a theatre there in 1995, before I’d had any productions of it here. Five years later, a director walked by the pile of scripts (she told me it was literally a ROOM of script piles) saw the title and picked it up. Read it. Loved it. Produced and directed it two years later.
It helped the script is tight, but if not for her, it might still be sitting there in that room of scripts.
4) I love to play basketball but unfortunately, after four years of high school basketball and years of street ball games later, I’ve never been any good at it.
5) In high school I was a varsity cross-country runner, our team was a consistent champ and we moved up to state competition my senior year and did very well. I was pretty good.
But today, I hate running. Isn’t it ironic?
6) I’ve been officially “detained” by police more than once, but never officially arrested.
7) I make motor-boat sounds with my lips when I’m walking around, thinking about things. If I’m trying to solve a particularly knotty problem, I make motor-boat sounds and rub my head. My buddy Ato immortalized this habit of mine in the film SAVING FACE.
When need be, I can write REALLY fast, but I totally prefer to take my time when I can - I definitely sweat the load, but I’m learning fast how not to - LOL!
